Our sat nav said 4hrs to Metz so we estimated we would get there around 4ish and then we could chill for the evening and catch up with our good friends Avril and Stan.
As we were going along the motorway the weather was changing, it was getting colder and then all of a sudden the rain came and couldn't see in front. We took it easy and the weather passed and as we were getting closer to the border of Luxembourg and Germany the sun was shining and was getting very hot as well which was good as seen enough rain.
We finally found the hotel after the road we wanted was closed and only a small one but it was just for sleeping so no problems there.
Michaela went to book in and find the room and at this point there were some men chopping down a large tree that was giving shelter. Fleur was not impressed at all but there were a few dog people at the hotel so it was nice.
A little while later Avril and Stan arrived and they were on the floor below us so we arranged to meet on the grass where the cars were so we could have our dinner and catch up. We managed to finish dinner before the rain started.
On Friday morning it was very humid and hot, and we left the hotel just before 7am as dogs were allowed into the show at 7.30 and we knew being a uk dog takes a little longer then home dogs. We got to the show venue and it was a lovely place near a rugby ground with 3 halls. The line to get into the show was long and we were told that the vet was running late.
We eventually got through vet control and went to find our ring which was easy to find as it was near the main ring. We set up our cages for Fleur and was lovely seeing our good friends Michele and Emilie.
Judging was meant to start at 09.30 but this was running about 30mins late
We had groomed out Fleur and had a walk so she could get used to the area and some fresh air
We watched the dog judging and was pleased that our friend Emilie won Junior Dog and that Michaela won Open Dog, Cacib and Cacs which made her dog into a champion
Then it was Fleur's turn to be shown in open bitch. There were 3 champions in the class as well as a young bitch who beat Fleur last year in France and another bitch who we hadn't seen before. We also had Fleur's half sister Emotion who we love and admire so we knew it would be a hard class. All I was hoping was that Fleur enjoyed herself and showed as well as normal
We were last to be seen and I knew the judge liked movement. We were all asked to move round the ring twice and then individually it was up and down and round in a circle. Fleur showed her socks off even though a dog went for her just before her individual turn. After our turn we had to move round twice more before the judge selected 4 dogs to be placed
We then moved again and was looked at. The judge put 2 dogs behind us so knew we were in the placings
We were then put into 2nd place and was graded excellent in open - Fleur's first open class
We then had to challenge for RCACIB and RCACS. We knew we couldn't get the CACIB as we were only 2nd but we could push for the reserves
We were up against the winner of intermediate and 2nd intermediate. We were moved a lot more and Fleur moved beautifully as normal and couldn't ask anymore of her
The winner of open won the CACIB &CACS and then we were given the RCACIB & RCACS. We were over the moon with the win and certainly at such a special show as it was the same as our Crufts so was lovely
Our friends Avril and Stan both won BOBs with Leon and Storm so we watched them in the group in which Storm won and so they would have to come back Sunday for BIS
We arrived back at the hotel after 7 as we had to try and miss the bikes for tour de France that was going on and we were shattered and fell asleep
On Saturday it was Hussy's day. She was in junior so we were looking forward to seeing what the poms were like
Like the day before the vet was late but we knew roughly where our ring was so we set up and made sure that Hussy was all groomed and Fleur was settled before judging started
We watched the dog judging and it was an eye opener watching some of the dogs and their movements and also how they trim them
We agreed with the winning dog as he was beautiful and our type. We watched the bitch judging and some bitches were not quite what we expected but was nice to see the types. I got Hussy ready for Michaela so she didn't have to worry about getting nervous
Michaela and Hussy won junior bitch although, if anything, Hussy was a little out of coat but she coped well for her 2nd overseas show and was so proud of them both. Fleur was sitting at ringside cheering them on so she was pleased too
We then had a long wait for our train as it was not booked till early hours of Sunday but we went back to the hotel and sat with Avril and Stan till 5 when we made the slow ride back to Calais. This gave the dogs time to chill and Michaela time to rest before driving
We left just after 5 and got to Calais about 10pm after we had booked dogs into pets control. We went through to duty free where we got some more wine and something to eat and a rest before boarding the train
We arrived back at home at about 12.30 Sunday morning in the heavy rain but was nice being back home and the 2 girls were happy to be home and telling Meme all about their trip away
We are looking forward to our next trip back to France and seeing our good friends again

Busy Week Ahead

http://www.sharhazlah.co.uk/sharhazlah-blog/busy-week-ahead

http://www.sharhazlah.co.uk/sharhazlah-blog/busy-week-ahead#comments

Uncategorized

Well we have a busy week ahead of us after our lovely day at Windsor. We are off on our travels again, and this time we are off to the French Championship which is being held in Metz. This time last year we were getting ready for our first oversea's show.We are taking both Fleur & The weather was pretty bad, but the roads had improved so the drive from Calais to Amiens didn't take long and we then began searching for the venue. We parked up and the doors did not open until 8.00am by which time the rain had left off a little so we were able to get in realtively dry and make our way to ring 22. Today was Hussy's day. Pomeranians were the last breed to be judged in the ring, so we made ourselves comfortable at ringside. Some shopping saw a new lead for Hussy and a new fabric puppy pen. It seemed a long day and Hussy was struggling to stay awake. Eventually, it was time for our class. There were four entries and Hussy was the last in the lineup so we were able to watch the others and see how it was to be done. Twice round the ring altogether then each dog moved up and down individually and was examined on the table. Hussy moved well on her individual and the Judge, Boris Chapiro indiicated to put her on the table. He then proceeded to examine her whilst telling his critique of her to the steward. I managed to pick up a few French words, "tres jolie" and "excellent" and then he said to put her on the floor. We were all sent round the ring again and he proceeded to place in reverse order. Soon it was only Hussy and one other walking round the ring. Hussy was pulled into 2nd place and I was so proud of her. We were graded "Excellent" and collected a trophy. As we left the show there was still time to buy a new toy for Hussy and one also for Fleur.
It was then a short journey to the hotel where Hussy and Fleur played madly (don't know where all the energy came from), we had something to eat and then it was time to crash for the night. Our friends Glynis and Dudley Chadwick and Liz and Claire Millward were also staying at the hotel, though arrived late.

The following morning, we all left to return to the show. Afghans were first in the ring under Laurent Heineshe. Fleur showed beautifully as usual and won the Intermediate Bitch class.
By now, the sun had come out and we took the opportunity for some photos and catchup chats. We were able to move the cars round to the back of the hall to load up and ensure we could leave promptly at 4.30pm. The drive back to Calais took only 1 hour 25

Douai International Show France

http://www.sharhazlah.co.uk/sharhazlah-blog/douai-international-show-france

http://www.sharhazlah.co.uk/sharhazlah-blog/douai-international-show-france#comments

Uncategorized

Today was a busy day before we went to Douai International Show France with Fleur. We got to the Euro Tunnel just after 1am Saturday morning had a little sleep as our train was at 02.10 Fleur was enjoying watching people arriving and making sure they didnt get too close.
We boarded the train, a little late as there was delays, but didnt matter as we had time to get there as it was just over an hour past Calais.
We arrived in France at just before 4am and headed straight to Douai, couldnt really see much as was dark and the roads were good.
We arrived at the venue and slept in the car till 7am when they opened the car park we parked right up by the hall so was easy to get in and out.
We unloaded the car, and made the short walk into the hall, was a different kind of hall then expected but there was space for grooming by the rings.
We set up knowing we wasnt going to be judged till lunch time, groomed Fleur through just to make sure then sat and chilled watching the breeds in front of us being judged as well as watching the Pomeranians as well.
The time came for Fleur to go into the ring, there was 3 other dogs in the class with us, We each had our individual assessment, and shame the ring wasnt bigger as then the dogs could have moved a bit more. Fleur was placed EX2 & RCACS (res CC) so was really pleased and over the moon with her. What a lovely way to start the new year in France with this. Was now looking forward to tomorrow and how Fleur was as i knew the same dogs would be there and another one.
We headed to the hotel, which was across the road from the venue, after we stopped and grabbed a McD's as we were both so tired, and didnt fancy going to the restaurant to eat. We checked in and had a super room loads of room, Fleur investigated every part of the room even watching outside to make sure it was ok.
The following day we went back to the show, and we were in a different part of the building and this was a little more closed in and not much room at the ring side the ring was slightly bigger but not much. We were in the ring at 11am so had time to relax and groom through Fleur and let her chill before going into the ring. The entry was bigger then yesterday and there was some dogs that we hadnt seen before so was interesting to watch the judging.
Fleur was in the ring and there was 5 in the class, and she moved beautifully once again, and couldnt ask anymore of her. Fleur was placed EX1 and then had to challenge for the CAC, which we didnt win, this didnt matter at all to us as she is still young, and needs time to mature, it was just super to win the class.
We left the venue packed up the car, and headed to Calais to catch the train home, we arrived earlier then our departure so had to pay extra but was nice to get home earlier as well.
On our way home from Folkestone we stopped to see Fleur's breeders Avril & Stan who were at the travel lodge as they were leaving to go back home to France on the monday. They were so pleased with Fleur and her great wins at the weekend.
Here's looking to our next trip to France!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
